Wolfgang Kaskeline (* September 23rd 1897 in Frankfurt/Main, † 1973) was a director of promotional films for UFA, as well as a producer and professor at the Berlin Weissensee School of Art and Design.
Originally a painter, the movie enthusiastic art teacher and commercial artist ended up in
the field of animated cartoons. In the 1920's, Wolfgang Kaskeline already produced his
first animated cartoons in his home in Berlin-Tempelhof. And in 1922, a long lasting
work relationship between Kaskeline and the cinematographer Gerhard Huttula began.
Amongst others like Blaupunkt, Persil, Asbach, Bols, Muratti, Peek & Cloppenburg,
Kaskeline created advertising films with the now famous 'Sarotti Mohr', the little black
boy who became the company's trademark.
Kaskeline's works were well-known for their grotesque charm that was at the
same
time factual and humorous. |
In the beginning, Kaskeline's company joined Mendelfilm and in 1927, became part of
Ufa-Werbefilm.
In 1928, he produced an advertising film for the dairy farm C. Bolle, where he integrated a coloured dream sequence into a black-and-white background story.
With the beginning of sound film in the early 1930's, Kaskeline was one of the first directors
to produce animated advertising films with sound.
Kaskeline Film was founded 1926 and enabled him after the war to continue the production
of advertising films and documentaries. In 1949, Wolfgang Kaskeline founded in Berlin the first film academy under private law . Ever since, the Kaskeline Filmakademie has trained directors of photography, editors and animators.
In 1987 was the birth of the Kaskeline Filmakademie in Berlin, managed by Heinz and
Jutta Kaskeline. The Kaskeline-Filmakademie is a licensed school providing
vocational education.
With the beginning of term in February 2009, the Kaskeline Filmakademie is now
managed by Anja Antesberger and Markus Görgens.
Based upon the approved 'Hands-On' method Anja Antesberger and Markus Görgens
renew the school both in a technical and theorectical sense to be prepared for
the requirements of the film industry of
the 21st century.
Alongside, a new and bigger location is found in Berlin, Kreuzberg at the river Spree.
